The sun shone gloriously in Sausalito at Gabrielson Park last Saturday, April 21st, at the third, annual Barkers by the Bay “Cutest Canine Contest” hosted by the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce. Two-legged and four-legged spectators and contestants enjoyed the K-9 Karnival which consisted of booths from the Marin Humane Society, Pet Food Express, Jennie’s Potraits, the Marin School, Shampooch, and the “Bowser Bar” (courtesy of the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce). The food booth was organized and staffed by volunteers from the Sausalito Remington Dog Park–Jean, Wayne, Mike, Neil, Kim, and Ted. Proceeds from food sales benefited the Dog Park.
The “official” pooch contestants (and parents) were led past the judges in the “Parade of Pooches.” In the six contests, Best of Show awards were given to:
POOCH PARENT(S) CONTEST
1. Emma Lin Ivice People’s Choice
(determined by ballots cast at the Spinnaker Restaurant prior to 12 noon on 4/21)
2. Little Pants Kellie Montes/Stacey Arias Small Breed
3. Rocky Josh Wolfe Medium Breed
4. Ava Titam Kessler Large Breed
5. Molly Malone Camille Peterson Best Dressed
(as a cheerleader)
6. Gus and Mick Susan Frank Cutest Canine Couple
Most of the dogs were happy to have water available and many enjoyed free canine ice cream (donated by Pet Express) as well. Everyone enjoyed strolling together in the park in the Sausalito sun. Although there were only six official awards, in our hearts, we know that all of the beautiful canine contestants (and even the canine spectators) were winners!
It’s official!! Barkers by the Bay has been declared an annual event by Sausalito’s mayor, Mike Kelley!
